Job Brief

As a Correctional Sergeant, you will oversee and manage the security and safety of inmates in penal and rehabilitative institutions. Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations within the correctional facility, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Monitor inmate behavior and activities to prevent disturbances and maintain order.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facility grounds, cells, and common areas to identify potential security risks.
  • Coordinate inmate movements, including transport to court appearances and medical appointments, ensuring safety during transit.
  • Train and mentor correctional staff, providing guidance on policies and emergency procedures.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies, implementing crisis intervention strategies as necessary.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to inmate behavior, incidents, and facility operations for administrative review.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other correctional institutions when required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a correctional or law enforcement environment, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and correctional facility procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with inmates and staff.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations and make quick decisions.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications in crisis intervention are a plus.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform the duties of the role, including potential self-defense actions.
