Job Brief

The Collections Representative is responsible for managing delinquent accounts and ensuring timely payments from customers. This role involves effectively communicating with customers via phone, email, and in-person to solicit payments, maintaining accurate records of collections, and handling account statuses. Ideal candidates will have strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in customer service, with a focus on achieving collection targets and minimizing losses.

Responsibilities

  • Locate and notify customers of overdue accounts through various communication methods, including mail, telephone, and personal visits.
  • Solicit payment from customers and effectively negotiate repayment plans when necessary.
  • Receive payments and accurately post amounts to customer accounts.
  • Prepare detailed statements for the credit department if customers fail to respond to payment requests.
  • Initiate repossession proceedings or service disconnections for non-compliance with payment agreements.
  • Maintain meticulous records of collection activities and account statuses.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve customer disputes and enhance service delivery.
  • Monitor account aging reports and follow up on escalated accounts to ensure timely resolution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in collections, credit management, or customer service roles.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in using collection software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of relevant collection laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills for reviewing accounts and payment patterns.
