Job Brief
As a Bridge Ironworker, you will be responsible for raising, placing, and uniting iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural components to create robust frameworks for bridges and large structures. This role requires hands-on expertise in working with heavy materials, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to interpret blueprints. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in structural steel assembly and demonstrate proficiency in using various metalworking tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Raise, position, and secure steel girders, columns, and beams to form bridge structures.
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate assembly.
- Utilize cranes, hoists, and rigging techniques to lift and place steel components.
- Conduct inspections of structural elements to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
- Collaborate with project managers and other construction professionals to meet project timelines.
- Assemble prefabricated metal buildings and erect metal storage tanks as required.
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform maintenance and repair work on existing structures as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a relevant apprenticeship program preferred.
- Proven experience as an ironworker or in a related construction role.
- Strong understanding of structural steel design and fabrication processes.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and tools safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of welding techniques and metalworking skills is advantageous.
- Valid certifications in OSHA safety standards and first aid preferred.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and work at heights.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
