Job Brief
The Automotive Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating various machine tools to produce precision components and instruments from metal. This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical systems, machining procedures, and the properties of metals. Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical instruments and industrial machines, with potential specialization in CNC programming and operation.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders to fabricate precision automotive parts.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to produce components that meet exact tolerances.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications.
- Modify and repair existing mechanical instruments and machinery, applying knowledge of mechanics and machining procedures.
- Program and operate CNC machines, ensuring optimal performance and product quality.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machining equipment to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve manufacturing processes and efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in machining or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as an automotive machinist or in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and materials, particularly metals.
- Experience with CNC programming and operation is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and quality control standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
