Job Brief
The Special Education Teaching Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities in preschool, elementary, middle, or secondary educational settings. Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide support in classroom management and promote a positive learning environment for students with disabilities.
- Facilitate academic learning and social skills development through tailored instructional strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to track student progress and adjust teaching methods as needed.
- Support students during daily activities, including transitions, breaks, and mealtimes, to promote independence.
- Maintain accurate records of student behavior, progress, and educational goals.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
- Implement behavioral interventions and strategies to support students’ emotional and social well-being.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with children or adolescents with special needs in an educational environment.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
- Certification or training in special education or related fields is a plus.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and adaptive tools to enhance learning.
