The Undertaker Helper plays a vital role in the funeral service industry by assisting funeral directors and staff during memorial services. This position requires a compassionate individual who can perform various tasks, including preparing the funeral parlor, managing floral arrangements, and providing support to grieving families. Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and setup of caskets in the parlor or chapel prior to services.
- Arrange floral offerings and lighting around the casket to create an appropriate atmosphere.
- Direct and escort mourners to their seats during services, ensuring a respectful environment.
- Close caskets and manage the logistics of transporting them as needed.
- Issue and store funeral equipment, maintaining an organized and clean workspace.
- Support funeral directors with administrative tasks, including documentation and record-keeping.
- Communicate effectively with team members and families to provide exceptional service.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the funeral home facilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in mortuary science is a plus.
- Previous experience in a funeral home or similar environment is preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact compassionately with families.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to handle the demands of lifting and transporting equipment.
- Basic understanding of funeral service operations and industry standards.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
