Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Tugboat Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of engines, boilers, deck machinery, and various equipment aboard the vessel. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in marine engineering, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a strong background in coordinating engineering teams. This role requires a deep understanding of maritime safety regulations and the ability to ensure efficient operations for safe tugboat services.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the engineering crew in the operation of engines, boilers, and deck machinery.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical, sanitary, and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all machinery and equipment aboard the tugboat.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
- Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate logs of engineering operations.
- Collaborate with the deck crew to ensure seamless operations during towing and docking procedures.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and crew members in best practices and safety procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Tugboat Engineer or similar role in marine engineering.
- Valid maritime certifications (e.g., STCW, Engineering Officer of the Watch).
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and marine electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in the maritime industry.
- Effective communication skills and ability to lead a team.
- Physical fitness to perform maintenance tasks in various marine conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed.
