Job Brief
The Track Service Worker is responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard and narrow-gauge railroad equipment utilized in various settings, including regular railroad services, plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. This role requires hands-on experience with track maintenance machinery and the ability to work in outdoor environments. Key skills include knowledge of track maintenance practices, teamwork, and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Lay, repair, and maintain railroad tracks to ensure safe and efficient transportation.
- Operate ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines as required.
- Inspect track conditions regularly and identify areas needing maintenance or repair.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate track maintenance schedules.
- Follow safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Document maintenance activities and track conditions accurately.
- Assist in the transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery to ensure optimal performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in railroad maintenance is a plus.
- Proven experience in track maintenance or a related field.
- Familiarity with operating heavy machinery, including ballast cleaning and tamping machines.
- Strong understanding of railroad safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license; additional certifications related to railroad operations are advantageous.
