Job Brief
The Track Repairer plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of railroad operations by laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard or narrow-gauge railroad equipment. This position requires hands-on experience with track maintenance, machinery operation, and a strong understanding of railroad infrastructure. Ideal candidates should possess solid technical skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work in various environments, including plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines.
Responsibilities
- Lay, repair, and maintain track for standard and narrow-gauge railroad systems.
- Operate ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines to ensure track stability.
- Conduct regular inspections of track conditions to identify areas requiring maintenance.
- Collaborate with team members to execute track maintenance projects efficiently and safely.
- Utilize hand tools and machinery effectively to perform repairs and installations.
- Adhere to safety regulations and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment.
- Document maintenance activities and report any significant issues to supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certifications in railroad maintenance preferred.
- Proven experience in track repair or a related field within the railroad industry.
- Familiarity with operating ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines.
- Strong understanding of railroad safety regulations and maintenance practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license; additional certifications in equipment operation a plus.
