Job Brief
As a Track Machine Operator, you will play a crucial role in laying, repairing, and maintaining track systems for standard and narrow-gauge railroad equipment. Your expertise will ensure the operational efficiency of railroads used in various services, including plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with track machinery and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate track laying and maintenance machinery, including ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on track machines to ensure optimal performance.
- Lay new track and repair existing track structures following engineering specifications.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings to achieve desired track alignment and stability.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute track work schedules efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures during all work activities.
- Document work performed and report any issues or concerns to supervisors.
- Assist in the training of new operators in the safe and effective use of track machinery.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in heavy machinery operation is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Track Machine Operator or similar role in the railroad industry.
- Strong understanding of railroad construction and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and effectively in various environments.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations relevant to track work.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team to achieve project goals.
- Valid driver’s license and any required certifications for operating track machinery.
