Job Brief

The Timber Management Specialist oversees the sustainable management of public and private forested lands, focusing on economic, recreational, and conservation objectives. Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive inventories of standing timber, assessing type, quantity, and location.
  • Appraise timber value and negotiate acquisition contracts for timber procurement.
  • Develop and implement sustainable management plans for forested lands, focusing on economic and conservation goals.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to wildlife habitats, water quality, and soil stability.
  • Devise and oversee reforestation and planting strategies to enhance forest health and biodiversity.
  • Monitor tree growth and health, adjusting management practices as necessary to optimize growth conditions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote recreational use and conservation efforts on forested lands.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation regarding timber management activities and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in timber management, forestry, or land conservation.
  • Strong knowledge of timber appraisal techniques and procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and best management practices in forestry.
  • Certification in forestry management or related areas is preferred.
  • Proficient in GIS software and other forestry management tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
