Job Brief
As a Switchboard Wirer, you will be responsible for the installation, setup, rearrangement, and removal of switching, distribution, routing, and dialing equipment in central offices or headends. This role requires hands-on experience in servicing and repairing telephone, cable television, Internet, and other communications equipment on customer properties. Ideal candidates will possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in various environments.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure switching and distribution equipment in central offices or telecommunications headends.
- Service and repair telecommunications equipment including telephone, cable TV, and Internet systems on customer premises.
- Rearrange and remove outdated or malfunctioning equipment to optimize system performance.
- Install communications wiring and equipment in residential and commercial buildings.
- Collaborate with other technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve service issues.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and equipment inventory.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards while working on-site.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding service needs and updates.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in electronics or telecommunications preferred.
- Proven experience as a Switchboard Wirer or similar role in the telecommunications industry.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications equipment and wiring standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and blueprints.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in electrical and telecommunications work.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
