Job Brief
The Sewage Plant Operator is responsible for operating and controlling systems and processes that treat wastewater and manage sewage. This role requires expertise in monitoring equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and performing routine maintenance. Ideal candidates will possess a strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor sewage treatment facilities and related equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Control processes and systems through control boards to manage the treatment of wastewater.
- Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment to identify malfunctions or safety issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on sewage treatment systems to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collect and analyze samples of wastewater to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of plant operations, maintenance activities, and compliance reports.
- Respond to alarms and emergencies to mitigate potential hazards and ensure the safety of the facility.
- Collaborate with team members and management to improve operational procedures and enhance plant performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in wastewater treatment is a plus.
- Proven experience in operating sewage treatment plants or related facilities.
- Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and equipment operation.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to wastewater management.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and perform manual labor as required.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and possibly additional certifications as required by local regulations.
