Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Seismic Observer to assist scientists and engineers in utilizing electronic, sonic, or nuclear measuring instruments for laboratory, exploration, and production activities. This role involves collecting and analyzing data related to resources such as metallic ores, minerals, gas, coal, and petroleum. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, technical proficiency, and a keen understanding of geological and geophysical principles.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of electronic, sonic, and nuclear measuring instruments.
- Collect and analyze data from various sources, including mud and drill cuttings.
- Chart pressure, temperature, and other characteristics of wells or boreholes to identify resource potential.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to interpret seismic data and develop exploratory strategies.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations based on seismic findings and analyses.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations during fieldwork and laboratory activities.
- Participate in field surveys and data collection in diverse geological settings.
- Conduct regular equipment checks and calibrations to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven experience in seismic observation or related roles within the mining, oil, or gas industries.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software and tools.
- Familiarity with geological mapping and geophysical techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration and reporting.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and adhere to safety protocols.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and best practices in seismic data collection and analysis.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various field sites as required.
