Job Brief
As a Seeing Eye Dog Trainer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the mobility and independence of individuals with visual impairments. You will be responsible for training dogs to respond to commands, navigate various environments, and assist their handlers in daily activities. Responsibilities
- Train dogs to respond to specific commands and navigate through various environments.
- Accustom animals to human voice and contact, fostering a positive relationship.
- Condition animals to perform tasks that assist individuals with disabilities.
- Provide obedience training to ensure dogs follow commands accurately.
- Prepare animals for show or competition according to prescribed standards.
- Evaluate and monitor the progress of training programs and adjust techniques as needed.
- Educate handlers on proper techniques for working with service dogs.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions and progress of each animal.
Requirements
- Proven experience in dog training, particularly with service or assistance animals.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and training techniques.
- Certification from a recognized dog training organization preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with clients and animals effectively.
- Ability to assess individual animal needs and adapt training methods accordingly.
- Patience and compassion for working with animals and their handlers.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for training sessions.
