Job Brief
As a Sailor, you will play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of marine vessels. Your primary responsibilities will include standing watch to monitor the vessel’s surroundings, performing cargo-handling tasks, and executing maintenance duties to ensure the ship’s safety and efficiency. Ideal candidates will possess a strong understanding of maritime operations, relevant certifications, and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
Responsibilities
- Stand watch to observe for obstructions in the vessel’s path and assess water depth.
- Operate navigational equipment and assist in the steering of the vessel under the direction of the captain, mate, or pilot.
- Break out, rig, overhaul, and store cargo-handling gear and running gear effectively.
- Perform maintenance tasks to preserve the painted surfaces of the ship and maintain line and ship equipment.
- Utilize emergency equipment as instructed during drills and real situations.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the deck and living quarters aboard the vessel.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure adherence to maritime safety protocols and standards.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid government-issued certification relevant to maritime operations.
- Tankerman certification is required for those working aboard liquid-carrying vessels.
- Experience as an Able Seaman or Ordinary Seaman is preferred.
- Strong understanding of ship navigation, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and adverse weather.
- Effective communication skills and teamwork abilities.
- Basic mechanical skills for maintenance and repair tasks.
