Job Brief

As a Resource Forester, you will manage and evaluate public and private forested lands to optimize economic value, enhance recreational opportunities, and promote conservation efforts. Your role will involve conducting timber inventories, appraising timber value, negotiating purchases, and drafting contracts. You will also develop strategies for wildlife habitat conservation, water quality protection, and soil stability. You will devise and implement planting plans, monitor tree health, and establish optimal harvesting schedules to ensure sustainable forest management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forest inventories to assess timber type, quantity, and location.
  • Appraise the economic value of standing timber and negotiate procurement contracts.
  • Develop and implement forest management plans focused on conservation and sustainability.
  • Monitor wildlife habitats and evaluate the impact of forest management on local ecosystems.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices in forest management.
  • Plan and execute tree planting and growth strategies to enhance forest health.
  • Evaluate soil stability and water quality in forested areas.
  • Establish optimal harvesting schedules to maximize timber yield while ensuring sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in resource management, forestry practices, or environmental conservation.
  • Strong knowledge of timber appraisal techniques and forest inventory methods.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS and forestry management software.
  • Certification as a Registered Forester (RF) or similar credential is a plus.
