Job Brief
The Range Ecologist is responsible for managing, improving, and protecting natural resources to optimize their usage while ensuring environmental sustainability. The role involves conducting soil surveys, developing erosion control plans, and advising agricultural and ranch management on best practices for sustainable land use. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in ecology, environmental science, or related fields, along with proven experience in soil conservation, water management, and rangeland improvement strategies.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive soil surveys and analyze soil health to inform management practices.
- Develop and implement plans to prevent soil erosion and enhance rangeland productivity.
- Advise farmers, agricultural managers, and ranchers on effective crop rotation, contour plowing, and terracing techniques.
- Evaluate the compatibility of livestock and forage plants with specific rangeland ecosystems.
- Guide stakeholders on best practices for range improvements, including fencing and water reservoir construction.
- Monitor and assess the ecological impacts of land use practices and recommend sustainable alternatives.
- Collaborate with environmental agencies and organizations to promote conservation efforts.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in rangeland management, soil conservation, and ecological assessment.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in soil analysis tools and ecological modeling software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Relevant certifications in soil science or ecological management are a plus.
