Job Brief
The Rail Loader is responsible for efficiently loading and unloading chemicals and bulk solids, such as coal, sand, and grain, into or from tank cars, trucks, or ships. This role requires hands-on experience with material moving equipment and a strong understanding of safety protocols in the transport of hazardous materials. Key skills include attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Candidates should have prior experience in logistics or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Operate material moving equipment to load and unload bulk solids and liquids, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Gauge and sample shipping tanks, testing for leaks and ensuring product integrity.
- Coordinate with team members to optimize loading and unloading processes while minimizing downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of materials shipped and received, adhering to documentation standards.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or safety hazards.
- Assist in the organization and cleanliness of loading areas and storage facilities.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and practices when handling hazardous materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in hazardous materials handling preferred.
- Proven experience in a loading/unloading role, preferably within the logistics or transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to the transport of chemicals and bulk solids.
- Ability to operate forklifts, conveyor belts, and other material moving equipment safely and efficiently.
- Excellent physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials as required.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
