Job Brief
The Public Housing Interviewer plays a critical role in determining the eligibility of individuals applying for government assistance programs, including public housing, welfare, unemployment benefits, and social security. This position requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of housing policies and regulations. Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews with applicants to assess eligibility for public housing and associated government assistance programs.
- Review and analyze application documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Gather and verify personal and financial information from applicants, including income, assets, and family composition.
- Provide guidance and support to applicants throughout the application process, answering questions and clarifying program requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of interviews, eligibility determinations, and case notes in accordance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with social service agencies and community organizations to facilitate access to additional resources for applicants.
- Stay updated on changes to housing policies, regulations, and best practices in public assistance programs.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for management regarding applicant eligibility and program effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role within social services or public housing administration.
- Strong knowledge of housing laws, regulations, and government assistance programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with diverse populations.
- Proficient in using database management systems and office software applications.
- Ability to analyze data, assess needs, and make informed decisions regarding eligibility.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping and reporting.
- Certification in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs is a plus.
