Job Brief
As a Pomologist, you will conduct advanced research in the breeding, physiology, production, yield, and management of fruit crops and agricultural plants. This role requires expertise in plant growth in various soil types, pest control strategies, and soil composition analysis. Responsibilities
- Conduct research on the breeding and genetics of fruit-bearing crops to enhance yield and quality.
- Analyze plant physiology and growth patterns in relation to soil types and environmental conditions.
- Implement pest management strategies to optimize crop health and productivity.
- Evaluate the chemical, physical, biological, and mineralogical composition of soils for effective crop growth.
- Classify and map soil types to determine their suitability for various agricultural practices.
- Investigate the effects of alternative farming practices on soil health and crop yield.
- Collaborate with agricultural scientists and industry stakeholders to share research findings and best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on research outcomes and recommendations for crop management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pomology, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience in conducting field research and data analysis specific to plant sciences.
- Strong understanding of soil science and its impact on crop growth and management.
- Proficiency in pest identification and integrated pest management techniques.
- Familiarity with agricultural research methodologies and statistical analysis software.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting research findings to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
- Willingness to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in pomology and agricultural practices.
