Job Brief
The Passenger Car Conductor is responsible for coordinating the activities of the train crew and ensuring safe and efficient operations during passenger transport. This role requires a strong understanding of railroad procedures, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage crew activities within a dynamic environment. Responsibilities
- Coordinate the activities of the train crew to ensure timely and safe passenger transport.
- Conduct safety checks and inspections of train cars and equipment before departure.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and yardmasters regarding train schedules and operational changes.
- Manage boarding and disembarking of passengers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Supervise the switching operations of train cars in the yard and maintain accurate records of train movements.
- Address passenger inquiries and concerns, providing excellent customer service throughout the journey.
- Ensure adherence to all federal and state regulations related to railroad operations and passenger safety.
- Collaborate with the switch-engine crew to efficiently handle train makeup and breakup tasks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in railroad operations is preferred.
- Proven experience in a conductor or railroad operations role, with a strong understanding of train handling procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with crew members and passengers.
- Ability to make quick decisions and solve problems in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols specific to the railroad industry.
- Certification as a conductor or completion of relevant training programs is a plus.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
