Job Brief
As an Over The Road Driver, you will operate a tractor-trailer combination or truck with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of at least 26,001 pounds, ensuring timely and safe delivery of goods across long distances. This role requires a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and entails adherence to all transportation regulations. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong navigation skills, an understanding of vehicle maintenance, and a commitment to safety in all driving activities.
Responsibilities
- Operate and drive a tractor-trailer combination or heavy truck to transport freight to designated locations.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with transportation regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of hours, mileage, and fuel usage in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Unloading cargo at delivery sites, ensuring proper handling and securing of goods.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and address any issues.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while maintaining safe driving practices.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports related to deliveries and vehicle maintenance.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards and regulations.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Proven experience as a long-haul truck driver or in a similar driving role.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Ability to perform vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to navigate using GPS and traditional maps.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications related to transportation preferred.
