Job Brief
The Ornamental Ironworker Helper assists skilled ironworkers in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of metal structures and ornamental ironwork. This entry-level position requires a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety practices in construction environments. Ideal candidates will possess strong mechanical aptitude, basic knowledge of welding and metalworking tools, and effective teamwork skills to contribute positively to project success.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation of ornamental iron railings, gates, and fences according to specifications.
- Prepare and clean metal surfaces by grinding, sanding, and applying protective coatings.
- Support ironworkers with the assembly and disassembly of scaffolding and other structures.
- Transport materials and tools to job sites, ensuring efficient workflow.
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Utilize hand tools and power tools to assist in the cutting and shaping of metal components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to site safety regulations.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of ornamental ironwork techniques.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in metalworking is a plus.
- Basic understanding of metal fabrication processes and tools.
- Previous experience in construction or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and safety standards.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
