Job Brief

The Optometric Aide plays a vital role in supporting optometrists by performing both administrative and clinical tasks. This position requires a combination of excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of patient care. Successful candidates will assist in scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate medical records, handling billing and coding for insurance purposes, and preparing patients for examinations. Ideal candidates should possess a friendly demeanor and effective communication skills, as they will interact with patients to ensure a comfortable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage the optometry office calendar efficiently.
  • Maintain and update patient medical records in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Process billing and coding information for insurance claims accurately.
  • Take and record vital signs and medical histories of patients prior to examinations.
  • Prepare examination rooms and assist in preparing patients for eye examinations.
  • Draw blood and administer medications as directed by the optometrist.
  • Provide support during diagnostic tests and procedures as needed.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and provide information regarding office procedures and services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in healthcare or optometry preferred.
  • Experience in a medical or optometric office setting is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with medical billing, coding, and insurance processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical procedures and patient care practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred but not required.
