Job Brief
As an Operating Room Technician, you will play a critical role in the surgical team, assisting surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel during operations. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing the operating room, ensuring that surgical instruments and supplies are readily available, and supporting the surgical team by providing essential assistance during procedures. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of surgical protocols, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the operating room environment for surgical procedures, ensuring cleanliness and compliance with safety standards.
- Assist in the transport and positioning of patients before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Set up surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols, verifying the availability of necessary supplies.
- Pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants efficiently during operations.
- Hold retractors and provide direct assistance during surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile field.
- Cut sutures and assist in the closing of incisions as directed by the surgical team.
- Participate in the counting of sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care and surgical outcomes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in an operating room environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of surgical instruments, sterile techniques, and operating room protocols.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is required.
