Job Brief

The Museum Curator is responsible for administering collections of artwork, collectibles, historic items, or scientific specimens within a museum or similar institution. This role involves conducting research, organizing exhibitions, and implementing public service activities to enhance visitor engagement. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in museum studies, art history, or a related field, along with excellent organizational and communication skills to effectively manage collections and engage with diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage collections, ensuring proper preservation and documentation of items.
  • Conduct research on artifacts and specimens to enrich exhibition narratives.
  • Design and organize exhibitions that educate and engage the public.
  • Collaborate with educators and community partners to develop instructional programs.
  • Oversee the acquisition of new items, conducting evaluations and appraisals as necessary.
  • Prepare and present educational programs, workshops, and guided tours for visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of all collection items and their conditions.
  • Engage with stakeholders and patrons to promote the museum’s mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Archaeology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience in curation, collection management, or related museum work.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to interpret and present information effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in database management software and digital cataloging systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of conservation techniques and best practices in artifact preservation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
