Job Brief
As a Mental Health Orderly, you will play a crucial role in supporting mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed patients within a healthcare setting. Working under the supervision of nursing and medical staff, you will assist patients with daily living activities, facilitate educational and recreational programs, and ensure patient safety during examinations and treatments. This position requires a compassionate individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a calm demeanor in challenging situations.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating to promote independence and dignity.
- Implement and lead educational and recreational activities to enhance patients’ social skills and emotional well-being.
- Transport patients to and from medical examinations, treatments, and therapy sessions, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Monitor patient behavior and report any significant changes to nursing and medical staff promptly.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Support nursing staff in implementing treatment plans and administering prescribed medications as needed.
- Assist in the physical restraint of violent or aggressive patients when necessary, following established protocols.
- Document patient interactions and progress in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in mental health or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is highly desirable.
- Experience in a mental health or healthcare setting is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, with the ability to manage stress in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders and treatment modalities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in patient care.
