Job Brief
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mapping Technician to perform essential surveying and mapping duties under the guidance of engineers, surveyors, cartographers, or photogrammetrists. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining and analyzing data for construction, mapmaking, boundary location, and various other applications. Proficiency in creating accurate maps from diverse source data—including surveying notes, aerial photography, and satellite imagery—is essential. A strong understanding of topographical features and political boundaries is required to ensure the precision and completeness of mapping projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to gather data for mapping and boundary determination.
- Utilize surveying instruments and technology to capture accurate measurements.
- Create and update maps using various data sources, including GIS software and CAD applications.
- Analyze topographical features and political boundaries to ensure map accuracy.
- Verify the completeness and precision of maps and related documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers and surveyors to interpret data and finalize maps.
- Maintain organized records of survey data and mapping projects.
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Cartography, Geography, Surveying, or a related field.
- Proficient in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and CAD applications.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in data interpretation.
- Experience in field surveying techniques and equipment.
- Knowledge of topographical mapping and boundary laws.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
- Certifications in surveying or mapping are a plus.
