Job Brief
As a Map Maker, you will research, study, and prepare maps and spatial data in both digital and graphic formats. Your primary responsibility will be to create maps for various purposes, including legal, social, political, educational, and design projects. Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is essential, along with the ability to design and evaluate algorithms, data structures, and user interfaces for mapping systems. You will collect, analyze, and interpret geographic information derived from geodetic surveys, aerial photographs, and satellite data, ensuring accuracy and detail in all mapping projects.
Responsibilities
- Research and compile geographic data from various sources to develop accurate maps.
- Create detailed digital and graphic maps for multiple applications, including urban planning and environmental studies.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data and enhance mapping capabilities.
- Design algorithms and data structures to improve mapping software and user interfaces.
- Interpret and analyze data from geodetic surveys, aerial imagery, and satellite information.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to fulfill project requirements and deadlines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mapping technologies and industry trends.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards in map production.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in map making and spatial data analysis.
- Strong proficiency in GIS software and mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Familiarity with data visualization techniques and geographic data interpretation.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong communication skills to present complex information clearly.
- Experience with programming languages relevant to GIS (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is a plus.
