Job Brief
The Long Wall Shear Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of longwall shearer equipment in underground mining environments. Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor longwall shearer equipment to ensure efficient material extraction from underground mines.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of machinery to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Collaborate with mining engineers and other operators to optimize production strategies and improve performance.
- Record operational data, including production metrics and equipment performance, to support reporting and analysis.
- Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs as needed.
- Train and mentor junior operators on best practices and safety procedures related to longwall operations.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the mining operation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in mining or heavy machinery operation preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience operating longwall shearers or similar underground mining equipment.
- Proficient in understanding mining operations and machinery functionality.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and protocols in underground mining environments.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and navigate confined spaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and management.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by mining schedules.
