Job Brief
The Prospecting Driller is responsible for setting up and operating various drilling equipment to extract underground oil and gas resources or to obtain core samples for testing during oil and gas exploration. This role requires a strong understanding of drilling techniques, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance. Ideal candidates will have experience in the drilling industry, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to adhering to safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate drilling rigs and associated equipment to extract oil and gas from underground reservoirs.
- Conduct pre-drill inspections and routine maintenance on drilling machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor drilling parameters and adjust equipment as necessary to maximize efficiency and ensure safety.
- Collect core samples and analyze geological data for exploration and production purposes.
- Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and other team members to plan drilling operations effectively.
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements throughout the drilling process.
- Document drilling activities, including daily reports and data collection for future reference.
- Identify and troubleshoot potential drilling issues and provide solutions to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant degree or certification in drilling or geology preferred.
- Proven experience as a driller or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret geological maps and technical documents.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.
- Proficient in operating drilling equipment and performing routine maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license; additional certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER) are a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
