Job Brief
The Logging Operating Engineer is responsible for operating logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with specialized accessories to facilitate tree felling and log handling. This role requires proficiency in maneuvering heavy machinery such as bulldozers, grapples, and log chippers, as well as a solid understanding of logging operations and safety protocols. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in the logging industry, demonstrating strong mechanical skills and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles to fell trees and manage log transportation effectively.
- Utilize various accessories, including bulldozer blades, grapples, and cable winches, to perform logging tasks safely and efficiently.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs as required, ensuring compliance with industry standards for safety and environmental impact.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on logging equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate with crew members to plan and execute logging operations while adhering to project timelines and safety regulations.
- Clear brush and pull stumps using appropriate machinery, minimizing environmental disruption.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and logs processed to support operational reporting.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in heavy machinery operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating logging equipment, including tractors, chippers, and other heavy machinery.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to perform equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of logging techniques, safety regulations, and environmental practices.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
