Job Brief
The Logging Excavator Operator is responsible for efficiently and safely operating logging machinery, including logging tractors, wheeled vehicles, and stand-alone logging equipment, to execute tasks such as felling trees, skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking logs. Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories like bulldozer blades, grapples, and cranes to perform logging tasks.
- Efficiently fell trees and skid logs using specialized logging machinery while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Load, unload, and stack logs for transportation or processing at designated sites.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, such as log chippers, for wood processing.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on logging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute logging operations effectively.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices to minimize ecological impact during logging activities.
- Maintaining accurate records of equipment usage and reporting any issues to supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating logging machinery and performing logging tasks in a forestry environment.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations pertaining to logging operations.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on logging equipment and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be preferred or required.
