Job Brief
The Log Processor Operator plays a vital role in the logging industry by operating heavy machinery and specialized equipment to efficiently fell trees, skid logs, and manage timber resources. This position requires a skilled operator with a solid understanding of logging techniques, safety protocols, and machinery maintenance. Ideal candidates will possess experience in operating logging tractors, wheeled vehicles, and stand-alone logging machines, ensuring effective and safe processing of timber products.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with various attachments, such as bulldozer blades, grapples, and cable winches, to perform logging operations.
- Fell trees and skid logs from the forest to designated loading areas using advanced machinery.
- Load, unload, and stack logs efficiently while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to process timber into market-ready products.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Clear brush, pull stumps, and prepare logging sites for future operations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging activities and optimize workflow.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in heavy machinery operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating logging equipment, including tractors, skidders, and log chippers.
- Strong knowledge of logging techniques, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and rugged terrains.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred for positions involving transportation of logs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with crew members.
