Job Brief
As a Log Grader, you will play a crucial role in assessing the quality and market value of logs and pulpwood in sorting yards, log decks, or millponds. Responsibilities
- Grade logs based on quality, size, and marketability to optimize sorting processes.
- Inspect logs for defects, such as rot, cracks, and knots, to determine usability.
- Measure logs using industry-standard tools to calculate volume and yield.
- Maintain accurate records of graded logs and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with lumber mill personnel to ensure proper handling and processing of graded materials.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working in sorting yards and mills.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in grading techniques and technologies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional forestry or lumber grading education is a plus.
- Proven experience as a log grader or in a related field within the forestry industry.
- Strong knowledge of log grading standards and wood quality assessment.
- Excellent measurement and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with safety regulations in lumber and forestry operations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
