Job Brief
As a Light Rail Operator, you will be responsible for operating subway and elevated suburban trains, as well as electric-powered streetcars, to ensure safe and efficient transportation of passengers. Your primary duties will include managing train operations, monitoring signals, and adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of rail systems, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to customer service. Previous experience in a transit environment is highly beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Operate light rail vehicles in compliance with safety regulations and operational protocols.
- Monitor train signals, speed, and track conditions to ensure safe operations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other operational staff to coordinate train movements.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience.
- Handle fare collection and provide information regarding schedules and routes.
- Conduct regular inspections of the train and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and unexpected situations, ensuring passenger safety.
- Maintain accurate records of operations, incidents, and passenger interactions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or training in transit operations preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and practices within the transit industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective passenger interaction.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Previous experience as a train operator or in a similar transit role is an advantage.
- Proficient in operating computerized systems and understanding operational protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
