Job Brief

The Library Assistant plays a vital role in supporting library operations by managing and organizing library materials, including books, electronic media, and periodicals. Responsibilities

  • Compile and maintain accurate records of library materials, ensuring proper organization and availability.
  • Sort, shelve, and issue library materials including books, electronic media, and microfilm according to established cataloging systems.
  • Assist patrons in locating library materials and provide guidance on library services and resources.
  • Register new library patrons and manage borrowing processes for books, periodicals, and other materials.
  • Receive and process returned library materials, ensuring they are in good condition and properly shelved.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks to monitor stock levels and identify items that require replacement or repair.
  • Support library programs and events by preparing materials and assisting with setup and logistics.
  • Utilize library management software and technology to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in library science or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in a library or customer service environment strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with library cataloging systems and electronic resources.
  • Proficient in using library management software and standard office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
