Job Brief
The Landing Signal Officer (LSO) is responsible for planning and directing the operation and maintenance of critical systems involved in aircraft carrier takeoff and landing operations. This role requires a strong background in aviation safety protocols, mechanical systems, and hydraulic control systems. The LSO ensures the readiness and safety of arresting gear, launching equipment, and visual landing aids while training personnel in carrier operations. Ideal candidates will possess extensive experience in aviation operations and a keen understanding of launch and recovery systems.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the maintenance and operational readiness of catapults, arresting gear, and associated systems.
- Plan and coordinate the design, development, and testing of aircraft launch and recovery systems.
- Prepare technical specifications for catapult and arresting gear installations.
- Evaluate design proposals to ensure compatibility with current systems and operational requirements.
- Determine handling equipment requirements for new aircraft types.
- Develop technical data and operational instructions for landing aids and systems.
- Train personnel on carrier takeoff and landing procedures and safety protocols.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments of all launch and recovery operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Landing Signal Officer or similar role within military aviation.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems used in flight operations.
- Relevant certifications in aviation safety and operations.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to evaluate and troubleshoot complex systems effectively.
- Proficient in developing technical documentation and operational guidelines.
- Experience in training and mentoring personnel in aviation procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and safety standards.
