Job Brief

The Loader Operator plays a critical role in the logging industry, responsible for operating heavy machinery such as logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories. This position requires hands-on experience in felling trees, skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking logs, as well as performing essential tasks such as pulling stumps and clearing brush. The ideal candidate should possess strong mechanical skills, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories such as bulldozer blades, frontal shears, and grapple attachments.
  • Efficiently fell trees and skid logs to designated locations while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
  • Load, unload, and stack logs, maintaining proper alignment and weight distribution for safe transportation.
  • Utilize stand-alone logging machines, such as log chippers, for processing timber as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate logging operations and address any operational challenges.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to logging practices and machinery operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Loader Operator or in a similar heavy equipment operating role within the logging or construction industry.
  • Valid driver’s license and certification for operating heavy machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to conduct equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of logging operations, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with crew members.
