Job Brief
As a Laboratory Animal Caretaker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of laboratory animals used in research and testing. Responsibilities
- Feed and water laboratory animals daily, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
- Examine animals for signs of illness, disease, or injury, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Clean and disinfect animal cages, work areas, and equipment to maintain a sterile environment.
- Administer medications orally or topically as directed by veterinary professionals.
- Provide routine postoperative care and support for recovering animals.
- Prepare biological samples for laboratory examination and assist with research protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and health status in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure the ethical treatment and welfare of all animals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal science or veterinary technology preferred.
- Experience in animal care or laboratory settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, health, and care standards.
- Ability to follow established protocols and guidelines accurately.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and handle animals safely.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and sterilization techniques.
- Certification in animal care or handling is a plus (e.g., AALAS certification).
