Job Brief
The Irrigation Worker is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems in agricultural and landscaping settings. This role requires hands-on experience in operating irrigation equipment, understanding of water management practices, and knowledge of various irrigation techniques. Ideal candidates should possess a strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while ensuring efficient water usage for optimal crop and plant health.
Responsibilities
- Install and maintain various types of irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, and surface irrigation.
- Monitor soil moisture levels and adjust irrigation schedules to optimize water usage and crop yield.
- Inspect and troubleshoot irrigation equipment for leaks, clogs, and other malfunctions.
- Collaborate with agronomists and farm managers to develop effective water management plans.
- Operate irrigation machinery and tools safely and efficiently.
- Maintain records of irrigation activities, system performance, and water usage.
- Implement best practices for water conservation and environmental sustainability.
- Assist in training new workers on irrigation procedures and safety protocols.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certification in irrigation technology is a plus.
- Proven experience as an irrigation worker or in a similar role within agriculture or landscaping.
- Strong understanding of irrigation systems and water management practices.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to perform outdoor labor in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles and machinery.
- Basic knowledge of plant biology and soil science is an advantage.
