Job Brief
The Highway Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and safety of highways, municipal and rural roads, and airport runways. This position involves performing essential tasks such as patching broken or eroded pavement, repairing guard rails, and maintaining highway markers and snow fences. The ideal candidate will possess experience in road maintenance, a strong understanding of safety protocols, and the ability to operate various maintenance equipment effectively.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on highways, municipal and rural roads, and airport runways.
- Patch broken or eroded pavement to ensure road safety and durability.
- Repair and install guard rails, highway markers, and snow fences as needed.
- Mow or clear brush from roadside areas to maintain visibility and safety.
- Plow and clear snow from roadways during winter months to ensure safe travel conditions.
- Conduct regular inspections of roads and related infrastructure to identify maintenance needs.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance tasks.
- Utilize various tools and equipment to carry out maintenance activities efficiently.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in road maintenance is a plus.
- Previous experience in highway or road maintenance preferred.
- Proficiency in operating maintenance equipment, including plows and mowers.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations in road maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required for certain positions.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and perform manual labor.
