Job Brief
The Herbarium Curator plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the collection of botanical specimens, ensuring proper documentation, preservation, and accessibility for research and educational purposes. Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain herbarium collections, ensuring specimens are properly labeled and stored.
- Conduct research and provide expertise on plant taxonomy and morphology.
- Develop and implement collection policies, procedures, and best practices for preservation.
- Facilitate educational programs and workshops to enhance public understanding of botanical sciences.
- Collaborate with researchers, educators, and community partners on scientific initiatives.
- Manage digital databases and cataloging systems for specimens and related data.
- Supervise and train staff and volunteers in herbarium techniques and standards.
- Prepare specimens for loan to other institutions and ensure compliance with regulations.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Botany, Plant Sciences, or a related field; PhD preferred.
- Proven experience in herbarium curation, botanical research, or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of plant identification, taxonomy, and herbarium techniques.
- Familiarity with collection management software and digital database systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience in public outreach or educational program development is a plus.
