Job Brief
The Headrig Sawyer plays a crucial role in the lumber production process by setting up, operating, and tending to wood sawing machines. This position requires a skilled professional with experience in both manual and computer numerically controlled (CNC) sawing equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of wood types, cutting techniques, and safety protocols, ensuring efficient and precise lumber cutting while adhering to quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate wood sawing machines, including band saws and table saws, to cut lumber to specified dimensions.
- Tend to CNC equipment for automated cutting processes, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and make adjustments as necessary to maintain production flow.
- Inspect finished products for quality, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize cutting schedules and enhance production efficiency.
- Document production activities, including machine settings and operational issues, for reporting purposes.
- Train and mentor junior sawyers and trainees in machine operation and safety practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in woodworking or machine operation preferred.
- Proven experience as a Headrig Sawyer or in a similar woodworking role.
- Strong knowledge of wood types, cutting techniques, and machine operation.
- Experience with CNC equipment and programming is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machinery issues.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy materials as required.
