Job Brief
The Grapple Operator is responsible for efficiently operating logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories to perform essential forestry tasks, including felling trees, skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking logs. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy machinery operation and safety protocols, along with the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions. Ideal candidates will have experience in logging operations and possess excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with grapple, bulldozer blades, or other attachments to fell trees and manipulate logs.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs efficiently to optimize production and minimize waste.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, such as log chippers and cable winches, to enhance logging operations.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety standards.
- Follow safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment in forestry operations.
- Collaborate with other team members to coordinate logging activities and ensure timely project completion.
- Clear brush and pull stumps as needed to prepare sites for future logging or land use.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, particularly logging tractors and grapple equipment.
- Knowledge of forestry practices and logging operations, including tree felling and log handling techniques.
- Valid operator’s license and relevant certifications in heavy equipment operation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to work in challenging weather conditions and rugged terrain.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks associated with logging operations.
