Job Brief
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Garbage Truck Driver to operate heavy-duty trucks and ensure the efficient collection and transportation of waste materials. The ideal candidate will possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance with local regulations. Key responsibilities include driving a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), performing pre-trip inspections, and maintaining accurate logs. Experience in the waste management industry is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Operate a garbage truck or tractor-trailer combination to collect and transport waste materials safely and efficiently.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is safe and compliant with regulations.
- Unload waste materials at designated disposal sites as required.
- Maintain accurate records of collection routes, time, and materials transported.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and other team members to coordinate schedules and routes.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on the vehicle as needed.
- Assist in the training of new drivers and provide support as necessary.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience driving heavy-duty trucks or similar vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and waste management regulations.
- Ability to operate vehicle lifting equipment and perform manual labor as needed.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
