Job Brief
The Garbage Collector is responsible for the efficient collection and disposal of refuse and recyclable materials from designated containers into a collection truck. This role requires physical stamina, attention to safety protocols, and may involve operating a refuse collection vehicle. Ideal candidates will have a strong work ethic, experience in waste management, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Collect refuse and recyclable materials from residential and commercial properties according to scheduled routes.
- Dump collected materials into the refuse collection truck while ensuring minimal spillage.
- Operate garbage trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on collection vehicles.
- Adhere to safety regulations and company policies while on duty.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding collection issues and route changes.
- Assist in promoting recycling initiatives and community awareness programs.
- Document and report any incidents, accidents, or maintenance needs to management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required.
- Previous experience in waste management or similar field is a plus.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and safety practices.
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with waste disposal regulations and environmental practices is advantageous.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and irregular hours.
