Job Brief
As a Freight Agent, you will play a critical role in expediting and routing the movement of incoming and outgoing cargo and freight shipments across various transportation modes including air, rail, and trucking. This position requires excellent organizational skills, customer service experience, and a strong understanding of shipping regulations and tariffs. You will be responsible for taking orders from customers, coordinating pickups, and preparing documentation to ensure efficient cargo delivery.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the movement of freight and cargo shipments in compliance with relevant shipping regulations.
- Receive and process customer orders for freight pickup and delivery.
- Prepare and review bills of lading and shipping documents to determine charges and tariffs.
- Communicate with transportation providers to arrange timely pickups and deliveries.
- Monitor shipment status and provide timely updates to customers as needed.
- Resolve any issues related to cargo delays, damage, or discrepancies in documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments and customer interactions in logistics management systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all shipping operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree in logistics or related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Freight Agent or in a similar logistics role.
- Strong knowledge of shipping methods, tariffs, and regulations.
- Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer service.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Certification in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
