Job Brief
The Foster Care Worker plays a vital role in providing social services and assistance to enhance the well-being and psychological functioning of children and their families. This position requires expertise in child welfare, family dynamics, and social services management. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with parents, educators, and community organizations to ensure successful placements and outcomes for children in foster care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families to determine needs and appropriate services.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans to address the unique challenges faced by children in foster care.
- Facilitate communication between children, foster parents, and biological families to foster healthy relationships.
- Assist in finding suitable foster homes for abandoned or abused children while ensuring compliance with state regulations.
- Provide counseling and support to children and families to improve social and emotional functioning.
- Advise and collaborate with teachers and school staff to address issues such as truancy, behavioral problems, and teenage pregnancy.
- Monitor progress and outcomes of children in care, making necessary adjustments to service plans as needed.
- Participate in training and professional development to stay updated on best practices in child welfare and foster care.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in child welfare, social services, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of child development, family systems, and trauma-informed care.
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in high-stress situations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to client locations.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
- Knowledge of local and state regulations regarding foster care and adoption processes.
